The Los Lunas Public Schools serve not only the children who live in the Village of Los Lunas, but also students who live in the county and the Village of Bosque Farms. Unincorporated areas served by the Los Lunas Public School District include Peralta, Valencia, Tome’, Meadow Lake, El Cerro, El Cerro Mission and Isleta Pueblo.

The district is growing rapidly. When classes began in August, 2001, some 8,500 students were being served in the system with 450 licensed personnel and 400 support staff.

The elementary schools, with kindergarten through sixth grade, serve the district. A comprehensive curriculum offers language arts, reading, math, social studies, health, science, art, music and computer literacy. Elementary schools are: Bosque Farms; Katherine Gallegos; Los Lunas; Ann Parish; Peralta; Tome’, Sundance, Daniel Fernandez, and Valencia.

A balanced curriculum at the two middle schools addresses intellectual and developmental needs, exploratory electives, and comprehensive counseling. Valencia and Los Lunas Middle Schools are the two.

The Los Lunas High School, Century High School (Alternative) give students the opportunity to enroll in practical, college-bound or advanced placement courses in core content areas. A strong academic program is enhanced by music, art, graphic arts, home economics, business, vocational agriculture and auto technology.

Los Lunas Schools is one of the largest businesses in the Los Lunas area with an operating budget in excess of $29.5 million. Ninety-eight percent of its funding comes directly from the state.

Established in 1981, the Valencia Campus of the University of New Mexico attracts students from throughout Valencia County as well as counties in the surrounding area.

Small classes make a friendly learning atmosphere at the Valencia Campus. With an average class size of fewer than 20 students and a pupil/teacher ratio 16 to 1, students are assured of teaching excellence.

Students range from those just out of high school to the older working adult. Through its academic and vocational curriculum, as well as the student services program, campus employees strive to meet the diverse needs of students.

Programs of study include academic and vocational subjects. Most academic credits earned at the Valencia Campus can be transferred to other colleges and universities in New Mexico and the United States. Vocational programs prepare students to enter the job market in their chosen field.
